Default installing H/K iDrive questions

Ok, so I'm working on a 1990 Gt Convertible with the 6 speaker system, only I have an aftermarket head unit, old alpine soon to be replaced.

Anyway the HK ipod system hooks into the back of the head unit using the pre outs, only when I hook mine up only the front speakers work..
when I have the radio on all the speakers work..
there are only two pre outs, one set says front, one set says rear, i've tried every combination but it just deletes other speakers and doesn't add the rears??

I'm looking at the factory harness and the alpine harness and there are two sets of speaker wires that are not hooked up. I'm assuming that they're running the four front speakers off of two channels and the rear speakers off the other two?

The alpine install is a joke and I'm lucky there are no loose/melted wires from the look of things.. there is also a little button and a red LED that I think were for an old alarm? I'm tracing those back and removing them as well.

Am I overlooking something as to why my rear speakers don't work? I'm upgrading the whole system soon anyway, but in the meantime I would like to have all 6 speakers working, in a vert you can't hear it unless it up as loud as it will go.

Any thoughts?? My multimeter hand is getting tired.

can you give a list of the equipment in the car and how you are trying to hook it up?

The rca's in the back of the headunit are OUTPUTS, not Inputs, you can't plug it in there, get a new deck or find a data cable to rca adapter plug for the cd changer input plug
