Running remote wire for aftermarket amp.
Ive searched and cant find a simple and straight forward answer. Is this a taboo subject?I want to do this this weekend so if any one has done this please chime in so it will be easier for me.Its for my 06 gt.
it is is a super secret taboo subject that you have to know the secret hand shake to get into the club or else we will have to kill you to tell you. There currently is another topic on here where I have given instructions on how to do it but I guess everybody would really want me to take their car apart, show them where the wire is, then allow them to make the connection and test it and take the credit. Forgive me if I am a little short with you but people are just not following simple instructions on here. I and most others cannot tell you specifically where to look, and what color the wire is as depending on what year, and style of stereo the colors are almost always different. I have been in the biz for a long time installing and I have rarely put any factory wire colors to memory with a few exceptions. When I need a wire I get out my voltmeter or test light and start checking wires. You want a wire that has +12v on it with the key on, and 0v or ground with the key off. Stay away from any wires that have an orange or yellow jacket on them that are normally labelled every foot or so that they are dealing with the airbags and you will be fine. You might have to check 10, maybe 20 wires for fuse locations before you find this but be confident that there is a wire there that will do what you want it to and keep checking. I have spent a good part of an afternoon looking for a certain wire color, in a certain location that just simply did not exist or was not where it was supposed to be when if I had taken my meter and started looking for it I would have found it long ago. EVEN if I had a color and a location you should still always test ANY wire you are making a connection to, to ensure it is what you want it to be. So what I am saying is that EVERY person doing any kind of stereo or mechanical work should have a meter and a basic understanding of how to work it. If that was teh case then my instructions would be simple saying
-1. ground the meter and turn it on
-2. check a wire
-3. repeat step 2 until you find the wire you want
end rant, sorry.
