ported vs sealed
i'm looking to rebuild my sub box, and i was gunna use ported since i hear it's a lot better.
i'm looking at the graphs that come with the subs, and basically everything is better with sealed. even at 20hz it's higher, and i think i heard that ported lose bass at lower frequencies, but make up for it at higher ones, and i'm not seeing that in these graphs.
so are ported really that good?
or should i just go with sealed?
discuss.

I'm going to semi sum it all up for you.
A sealed enclosure is easy to build.
If you are doing the construction of the box then stop reading here and go with a sealed box.
A sealed box is an airtight enclosure.
Usually, the bigger the box, the more low end output is produced. But it comes at a price. With that price being you will need more wattage.
The smaller the box, the more controlled the excursion is.
Ported/vented enclosures take advantage of a port to amplify the sound that is being produced.
By tuning the port you effect the way the port resists motion, in a way.
By tuning a box you can net gain more decibles in output than you could using a sealed enclosure.
Like I said brotherrrrr.
Ifyou're building it, I'm going to assume you aren't a box building genius so stick with the sealed.
If you're paying someone else to do it, well then there is some information that may, or may not, help you to decide on what type of box you want.
