Default Matching Amp with subs

I read crutchfields article on this and am still a little bit confused. If i get 2 alpine type r's which are 500RMS and 1500Max wired at 4ohms what kind of amp would i need something to match both subs combined RMS? Or is it just the one sub thats what confuses the hell out of me. Im looking at alpine amps on ebay and i really want to match brands this time, also name brand. **** chinese garbage ive had it with pyle and all those garbage names.

Basically these subs

Would an amp like this be enough for the 2 subs?

Or

Can someone please simplify this for me? Is it 500RMS + 500RMS = an amp of 1000RMS? or when is wired to 4 ohm the power ratings are different.

Thanks.

honestly the power rating of the speaker is the least important number to look at on a speaker.

The sub you have the link to is a Dual voice coil speaker(DVC) which means that there are two small motors inside of that speaker instead of one big one. Each of those motors(coils) is rated at 4 ohms and both need to be hooked up to make it work correctly. There are two ways to wire the coils, series will make an 8 ohm load and parallel will make a 2 ohm load. So if you have two of these speakers, you have 4 coils and through a series parallel wiring system you can get close to a 2 ohm load to get the most out of those subs but DVC speakers are really made to be able to play alone at 2 ohms, and get the most out of one of those amps and one sub.

If you want to run 2 subs you will be better off looking for a regular single voice coil speaker, and getting a pair of them.Once you have the speakers get the best amp you can with the $$$ you have. I didn't say get the most wattage as not all watts are the same. I have been installing for years and put big amps on small speakers, small amps on big ones and it is the person that blows the equipment 9 times out of 10, not the equipment...

Meet ttocS, he's from the National Amp Association...

Combo looks okay. Not the best subs in the market, but it'll be punchy enough. How much bass are you looking for, and what else do you have in your system??

And yes, If you connect 2 type-R's in paralel you would need 1000W Total. Like ttocs said, you're better of getting single voice coil 4's, or dual 2's. For the amp, you can't miss with a JL 1000/1. But of course, it all depends on your budget
