Default PIE FRD04-AUX Issues - FYI

First off, if you have one of these and have trouble with it - don't bother sending PIE an e-mail or posting on their board - don't think they open their support e-mail or look at the board. You need to call tech support at (800) 330-9754.

Now, The weather just broke here in Upstate, so I went to install the FRD04-AUX in my '06 with a Shaker 500. Followed the instructions from TacoBill on getting to the radio, and followed the PIE installation instructions as well. It's pretty straight forward - it just installs in-line with two power hookups.

Anyhow, I installed it and go to check it out with my XM - hit the AUX button on the head unit - get "No AUX Audio". This was last night. I e-mailed them and posted on the board last night - nothing today.

Called them after work and talk to a tech who asks me togo out to the car and try turn the ignition on - nothing battery is completely dead. Now I know the shaker 500 does that too over extended periods as I found out 1st hand and also afterwards, here on the board (I stored mine this winter and if you shut the car off with the radio on it'll drain the battery.) But the FRD04-AUX with early chips drain the battery as well.

The tech asked me to pull apart the FRD04-AUX and take tell him what the serial number on top of the IC chips says: mine is B9AUX1. He said they recently updated this chip in November, which cures the battery drain issue, and also the "No AUX Audio" issue.

So if you have an '05 or an '06 with the FRD04-AUX and are having trouble with it (07's + don't need this part - they already have the AUX input in the center console) all you need to do is to send a letter telling them your chip serial number, where you purchased it, along with your mailing address and $2.00 to cover return postage, and they'll send you a new chip.

Good info. I purchased their I-pod plug-in for my wife's ford Escape. The install went smoothly with absolutely no problems but there's a bug in the Radio to Ipod controller using the SAT buttons. I had e-mailed PIE but never heard back. Never tried to call them but since my wife doesn't like the stereo direct controls anyway, it's a mute point.
