97 vert sub box
Okay everyone, need your $.02
The only piece left in my system I am trying to figure out, is how to get a subwoofer in my trunk, AND still have a trunk left to put golf clubs in and a few other items.
I had a 10" box in there last year, and it sounded great. But, it was in a big box that took up room in that little trunk. Even with the top down I was very happy with the sound.
I spend about 20 minutes looking over my truck last night. TRYING to figure out what to do. I have a few issues/concerns:
1. Will an 8" sound as good?
2. Do they make aftermarket, custom enclosures for this vehicle? I couldnt find anything last night online.
3. I would like to keep access to my spare tire.
4. What is under the rear seat?
5. Thoughts on bass tubes?
I have NO problem with tackeling custom work. I just dont know WHERE the extra room is in this vehicle for a sub box. What I am concerned with is giving up about 1/2 my trunk to a subwoofer.
If you have any pictures or ideas, PLEASE send my way.
thanks.
Dave

1) you can get an 8" to sound as good as a twelve if you put the money into it. but then you'll need a box to handle it.
2)i havent found any custom setups specially for the vert. however alot of shop can do it up for you.
3)my box is set up so that i can remove the box just by unpluging the speaker wires. i have my amp mounted on the bottom side of the trunk lid.
4)under the rear seat is two pockets with not much room for anything. and you really wouldnt want to put anything there anyways because of equipment cooling issues. you dont want an amp nburning up directly under the seat.
5)not to familiar with bass tubes. never had one and never wanted one.
ive seen alot of people using truck boxes which take up very little room. you could even have one fabricated to fit in nicely and still use ten's. and like i said i solved my amp problem by mounting it on the trunk lid. the only thing about that is if you running a huge amp like mine i had to get stronger trunk struts to hold the weight of the amp when open.
hope any of this helped.

I love my 8s although if you listen to rap or techno you will always want more out of them. I didn't know you could fit golf clubs in a verts trunk to begin with but no I have not seen any boxes made for them. Rockford makes one for the hard top but I think the vert it too small for it. To get what you want you will have to probably give up a little from another catagory. You could build an enclosure into the spare tire well but of course this will mean you loose the spare. It is not uncommon that after doing a lowering kit on your stang the factory jack is useless so you can do this, if you keep your cell phone and AAA up to date....
Do you use the back seat for anything other then junk? I have no kids and grew tired of my friends complaining of it long ago so I have not had someone in my seat in over a year which is leading me to dream of replacing the seat for a sub, a 15 in my case. There is about 3" of foam in the seat, and then there is the fuel tank so there is no room under it.

size doesn't really determine how loud it is. Size only determines at what frequency will it be loudest, and you can also change the size of the box, and port if you have one, to tune it. Properly tuned boxes can sound good with almost any sub.
But for what your wanting I would suggest a pair of slim subs. They aren't thick so they don't take up to much space.
