Well, for a suggestion, you could probably do a couple 10s in the trunk with a box made to match your car, or you might be able to find one of those stealth box type sub enclosures on crutchfield or something. Good speakers would always be a plus, same with a head unit. I happen to like Alpine, so if I were you, I'd probably go with the IDA-x001 head unit because I have that one and I like it, some Alpine Type R speakers, and/or some Type R 10s. The amps for those would be the most expensive. If you got 2 Alpine Type R 10s you'd be at 1000rms, 500rms per sub, and the amp to power them, Alpine's PDX1.1000 - kinda expensive... For the Type R speakers, if you got 4 speakers you'd be at about 400rms, and the amp to power them would be the PDX4.100. The head unit doesn't have a cd player or anything like that, but it does have an iPod plug in that lets you control your iPod from the head unit, and the controls are pretty similar to the iPod. For that, I'd say to definitely use ebay... Also, if you get all that, you're probably going to need something like an Optima battery, a capacitor, maybe alternator... The wiring would also be pretty expensive if you go with good quality name brand wire. You could just buy a cheap wiring kit, but make sure the wire gauge is good... I'd say probably 0 gauge for the subs, 4 gauge for the speakers. As for the prices, these are approximate prices from ebay... IDA-x001 - $250. PDX1.1000 - $400. PDX4.100 - $270. 1 Type R 10 - $90. I'm not sure about your speaker size, but here is the pair of Type R 5x7s - $80. Stinger 0 gauge wiring kit - $120. Stinger 4 gauge wiring kit - $50. Rockford Fosgate 1 Farad Capacitor - $90. Optima Battery - $120. Can get other brand of stuff, but that's just what I like. Oh, ya, you're also going to need a wiring harness for your head unit if you get a new one, but you can find those at like WalMart for 10 bucks. One more thing... If you're going to get one of the stealth box enclosure things, you're going to end up paying a little more... Here's a link of what they are and kinda look like, not sure if they make them for your car or how much it'll be, but this will give a general idea of what they are, but this is for a 02 Camaro/Firebird, not a Mustang... http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Produ...+box&tp=13

You really need to answer a couple questions first...

What type of music do you listen to?

Will you be doing the custom work yourself?

Do you want all out loudness, good sound quality, or a muxture of the two?

thank you so much for that very long detailed post ddh1, and PReal I listen to rock and rap a lot, not so much a country fan. And i have been in someones car where the subs overpowered the sound and i didnt like that at all, so good sound quality is a must. And i most likely wont be doing this myself, not my fortay haha

i am in the process of building an amp andcap rack to fit the left hand side of my trunk and a stealth box to hold one 10" sub (either JL10w3v2 or Alpine Type-R, not sure which but i have 2 of each sitting in my garage) using this set up to maintain the use of my trunk.

Amp is Alpine v12 1200watt mono block

Capacitor is Rockford Fosgate digital 1.5 farad

Replaced all mids and highs with pioneer 6x8's

Also running a Pioneer DEH-6000UB head unit.

Should be done this weekend wrapping and deciding on which sub to go with. I'll post pics for ideas after that

Don't buy that system. Pioneerequipment isterrible except for the REV series comps and coax's. Caps are paper weights and have no place in car audio. Alpine amps are nice, but you can do better for the money.

With around $800 you can do much much better.

One more question. Do you already have an aftermarket HU? Do you want one?
