High pitched noise from speakers, help?
The search function isn't working, and I know I've seen threads liek this before, but I can't find any and the noise is annoying. I have a brand new Alpine receiver, Infinity speakers and an amp. The noise sounds like high pitched feedback when the stereo is turned on, whether the volume is high low or off. The noise gets higher when i hit the gas, higher rpms = higher pitched squeal. When I turn the stereo off, the noise goes away.It sounds like its coming from the rear speakers. Its really annoying and I'm just curious what it could be. Thanks for the help...
it is called alternator noise. IT is the noise that is made by the alternator spinning in relation to the engines rpms. This noise is common in the power wires of the system but can actually be transimitted from the power wires, to the rca cables and then amplified by the amp. Try to seperate your power and rca cables as much as possible, this is why it is recommended that they go down seperate sides of the car. Also make sure your ground connection is clean and solid. You should not be able to wiggle or move it at ALL.......
Hey , thanks ttocs, was hoping it was you that would reply, I noticed you know your stuff. Appreciate it. I noticed that my amp is switched to mono, and when I try to sitch it to stereo, it goes low and distorted. Its a cheapo amp thats just temporary, but shouldn't I still be able to toggle between mono and stereo? I know the shop that installed it said that the job that was done previously wasn't great, and a couple of speakers are badand there were crossovers installed which weren't necassary. Any ideas? Thanks...
most of the time when you run an amp in mono, the wiring is different. To bridge most amps you will combine two channels and use the + of the left channel and the - on the right so depending on how you have you speakers wired it may or may not do much but I would not really recommend switching it while it is on.
how is the gain on the amp set? try adjusting it and see what happens. The next step you will need to disconnect the rca's on the back of the deck and then turn the system on and see if youstill have noise.

Could the wiring be different if one or more of the crossovers are no good? The shop I went tosaid I should have the crossovers taken out because they are doing more harm than good, then I should replace the Infinity speakers with02's..what do you think? What does it mean if there is still noise after I disconnect the rca on the back of the deck? Sorry, I know next to nothing about car audio, thanks...
x-overs? that is the first thing you have metioned about x-overs so I have no idea if they are your problem or not but they do not generally add noise.
It would really help me if you could give a list of your equpiment and I mean model numbers not size shape or color...... please be specific and be sure to include in wiring details.
