Default Radio Static AM while running - 94 Vert

Hey all,

I have a 94 Vert 6cyl that was sitting for 2 years under a wet tarp. Had several rust issues (under seats, floors, fuse box etc). when I bought the car there was no stereo in it. Just the CD Player as part of the Mach 460 stereo cd system (i think).

Anyway, I went to a Mickey Shore and said I wanted a stereo. Bought an Alpine stereo with the extra connector to connect directly to the original system (without using the cd of course). took the guy a while to get it going, the connectors were a bit corroded. But he did get it to work. sounds pretty decent (speakers probably need to be replaced, but ok otherwise).

The problem is when I turn on any AM station. There is a high pitch sqeel, or wine i guess that gets worse when I rev the engine. I changed my antenna thinking that may be the problem (first with an aftermarket cheapo, then with an original antenna off another car), but it's still bad.

Then I noticed when the car is off, the stereo sounds GREAT. apparently I have a problem with a ground, or maybe corrosion in the wires maybe?

Someone suggested my spark plugs need to be Non resistor types??????????

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Jay

sounds like it was under water or had a bad leak?

Do you know if you still have the factory amps/woofers working? I would start simple and check your ground and power connections. On my 94 gt a noticed a couple of years ago that the factory ground(right next to the battery) had developed some corrosion and causing problems.

If the antenna was close to the plug wires I would be worried but...
