I know the Alpine CDA 9885 doesn't have the 7EQ tuning parameters, but from what I have.. how should I tune it? I've been tweaking it a bit lately trying to find the right sound. Anyway, I set my gains on my amp, and LPF at 90 I believe. Right now, on the deck, I have my crossover (HPF) at 120Hz [that's where it sounds best for me when I do it by ear - but I usually hear people have it at 80-100Hz? I have the Treble at +5 (goes to 7), Bass at +7, forgot what the treble center freq. is at (what should it be at?) Bass band width is at Q3, and I control my subwoofer level. (usually from -8dB to 0dB)

Sound tuning options for the 9885 below:

Crossover: Off/80Hz, 120Hz, 160Hz (12dB/oct)
• Treble Level Control Range: +/-14dB at 10kHz
• Treble Center Frequency: 10k/12.5k/15k/17.5kHz (Selectable)
• Bass Level Control Range: +/-14dB at 100Hz
• Bass Band Width Adjustment (Q): 4 choices (1 =wide, 4 =narrow)
• Bass Center Frequency: 60/80/100/200Hz (Selectable)
• Subwoofer Level Adjustment: -15dB to 0dB (1dB steps)

You cannot go by what others have it at! It all depends on the car. My kenwood goes to 220hz for treble and that's what mine is at. 80-100hz is more for midrange. In order to fine tune your stereo you need an external EQ for precise adjustments. If you have subs, you should not have your head unit sub level up +7. That's too much and your forcing bass out of your little speakers when they don't need to be doing that sorta thing. I have my 5x7's at -3db for bass and my sub +3. The less bass you run out of the little speakers, the cleaner the highs will be which is all they are there for after a subwoofer is installed. As for treble, I go with the lower of the settings which would be 10khz and run the gain up to +3 for CDs and 12khz and +5 for radio tuner. The lower frequency allows smoother treble without the ear piercing "clean" treble(17.5khz) which can get rather fake sounding and very annoying. You will have to just experiment because I have midrange adj. on my Kenwood which you do not have. That changes the sound contrasts quite a bit and allows for saved settings for both CD and radio..
