Default Upgrading speakers and head unit in Mach 460

I have the Mach 460 system and I am making some changes. Last year I put in http://clarion.com/us/en/products/20...385078991.html as my deck.

Now I ordered http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/prod...g=en&tab=F for the rear speakers. Is there anything special I have to do to keep from messing up the speakers and amps? Will the speakers be underpowered by the amps and possibly blow them?

you can't hook those speakers up to the factory amps. The factory woofers are an 8 ohm bass only speaker and you are replacing it with a 4 ohm full range driver. This will make the factory amps very unhappy and also sound bad. if you bypassed the factory amp when you installed the deck(I show how on page 2 of my cardomain page) then you can easily wire your new speakers to be ran off of your deck by tapping into the signal at the tweeter in the rear enclosure. This will sound much better and also be safe for your equipment.

The cardomain page is down at the moment but that brings up a new question.

I am going to be keeping the factory speakers in the front door panels(temporarily until i buy new). Is it better to bypass the amps for even just the factory speakers or should I keep the front amp connected?

Also, if anyone is familiar with using this head unit or a similar one in this situation...what are the best filter settings and stuff to use?

you will want to bypass the amp for the tweeters, and retain the amp for the subs and that is what I show on the page(when it comes up!). if your clarion as the ability to x-over the front speakers for high pass you will want to activate it with a cut off point around 100-120 hz. The rear speakers should be safe to play full range. IF your deck only allows you to play the front/rear speakers either high pass or full range only then play them all full range and you can use 100 microfarad capacitors to take the bass out of the front tweeters.

well after doing more research and messing with some stuff I realized that i supposedly already bypassed the amps when i installed the HU. At least that is what Crutchfield claims in the description of the wiring harness http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Produ...mp&tp=2977 . But the problem is, I put in the speakers today and they started cutting in and out if I turned the volume up very much at all. The only thing that could cause this is the amp clipping correct? The Crutchfield site says you have to keep the amp wired in for it to work so I dont know how that would actually be bypassing it. I have no idea how to fix this.

With that said, I want to wire the speakers to the s/w controls like you did in your guide. I want to use the harness I referred to earlier so I will need to connect RCA plugs to it like you did...but Ive never wired RCA plugs onto wires so could you explain to me how you connected the 2? And once I get that done do I just connect it to my amplifier outputs or what? The HU wiring diagram says not to connect full range speakers to the S/W outputs. Here is the diagram for my unit http://clarion.com/us/en/MungoBlobs/...75USB-INST.pdf

P.S. I believe your guide is only accurate up to 97 models because they changed the wiring.
