Default 5.1 surrond help

I'm in the precess of installing a DVD/stereo in my wifies 65 Fastback. The DD head unit is capable of 5.1 surrond sound. My question is, do I need a 5 and 1 channel amp or can I use a 4 and 2. I'm not sure which is the best. Right now I have a set of Polk 6.5 for the front and 6X9's for the rear. I plan to add acenter speaker andmaybe a 12" sub. The sub will have to be mounted in the rear on a flat surface just behind the seats. Advice and help appriciated.

Any particular reason you're doing 5.1? Unless it's for movies, most audio CD's are stereo seperation, not front L/R, rear L/R, and center. The center will not be a true center with most CD's so you'll actually hurt your sound quality by blurring the Left and Right channel seperation.

The ideal way to do it if you're looking to utilize the 5.1 is to get one 4 channel amp and two 1 channel amps. The 4 channel amp would be for the corners, two 1 channel amps would be utilized for the Center (1 amp) and Subwoofer (1 amp).

I'm sure there arealternatives in there to replace the two 1 channel amps with another 4 channel amp that has two bridgeable outputs to give you2 mono channels vs 4 stereo channels.

The head unithas aDolby 5.1 built in. On the outputs, it has Center Out, FR-FL, RR-RL,and Sub. I think it will be unique to watch the movies in surround sound. The instructions call for two 2-channel and two 1-channel amps.

you can do either what he suggested or what your manual says. What deck is this? If it isn't a good deck that will last I would not design a system around it.....

Its a JVC EXAD. I'm not too sure who makes the good stuff these days. I do know at one of the "over the pond" factorys, they make some high end (or supposed to be price wise) along side about 3 or 4 other different brands, under the same roof. So did I goof? Still have a few days to return. Some of the guys in the classic section have been following along. Heres a photo of console. Its not finished, but I usuallymount and fit everything, then take apart and paint. The dash will black as the car is months away from being finished.

OK, I have bought a pair of JL audio 4500 amps and a set of JL audio Subs and a center channel (140 watt). These are 4 channel amps. So bridging the center and running the subs on the other two is OK. That was what I was told. Advice?
