Default Quick Question for all your Audio Guys/Gals

I have a 69 Fastback and want to do a modern (as I can with the car) system. I had a question I know you can build a console with places to mount the speakers under the dash. Would this be better than finding aftermarket kickpanels for the doors?

Btw anyone have some links for kickpanels or the under the dash speaker boxes (pre-fab) or will I just have to get them custom made?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

properly made kick panels will give superiour imaging and sound quality. I know that they make prefab kicks for models around that time as I saw them the last time I was in a local vintage mustang shop. They didn't look the best but also did not look the worst. If you are making a show car then I would have them custom made and get them the way you like. I made my kick panels for 3 ways in my 94 gt and show them towards the end of my cardomain page, but I am not an audio DIYer exactly since I have worked in the industry. Those are actually the only kicks I have ever made but I have seen alot of them built.......

I used the stock kicks on my 65 as a base. Superglued some dowels and a speaker ring. Stretched some fleece and then fiberglassed it.

It is super easy to fiberglass but takes a lot of time. I got sick of sanding and bondo so I just covered them in carpet to match my interior.

agreed that if you do not like sanding then you need to try a different way. I sanded on mine for weeks....... Literally......

I agree.

When my brother bought his 99 GT Vert (new). We had a friend that had a car stereo shop do a custom system for it. I helped with the sanding on the Fiberglass box in the trunk and it was a pain.

I will definitely go with a custom setup and let someone else make the boxes. I just wanted to make sure my "gut feeling" was correct.

You answered it with the sound quality.

Thanks very much,
