Default remote start installation

My daughter has a 2006 Mustang and I was considering purchasing a remote car start system as a Christmas gift. How difficult are these to install for someone who has moderate experience under the hood. I noticed Target is advertising a remote starter in their ad this week that comes with installation instructions on dvd. The only thing is they don't say what brand it is. Are there some specific brands I should look for? I have read a little online about bypassing the security system, is this a big problem in installation?

Thanks,
Pam

I looked into these at one time. The cheapest one I could find was around 5-600$ installed. I was told that i had to get a certain kind, because the key is chipped, so it has to fake the computer into thinking the chip is actually there.

My friend got one in his jeep(exact one I was looking at, for the same reasons) and said it was worth every penny.

you do not want to do it yourself unless you are a seasoned audio installer, especially in a new one. Don't get your car audio from target or walmart.......

i know this is a month old thread but i find it easier to buy a full alarm with the remote start in it. i had a shelby alarm with remote start put in my car for 200 bucks and 200 for the alarm itself. and my car is a manual. u can looked on hookedontronics. they have a viper alarm with remote start for between 150-200 then take it to any alarm installation place and they can install them for you for about 200 bucks or so. ive had it done to 2 of my cars already

There are a few extra cost considerations you have to take when looking into the price of alarms with remote start - the bypass module, pins, sensors, auxiliary functions...
