whats your favorite sub?
i can try and help explain why kicker is so bad (this all takes place within two and a half years). I had my system built to correct box specs tuned accordingly powerd by the reccommended amp tuned by a professional installer AND blew two L5 10" speakers within 8 months. one was a burned VC and the other just stopped working literally. AND that was after i busted up two 10" L5 cones in the kicker built box that my kicker came in, that was also tuned by a professional installer. I just dont think kicker's quality is up to snuff. I have in total blown up 4 10" L5's and 1 12" L5. and ALL were in correctly built boxes and tuned by professionals. I just dont see why there is a reason to give them a chance.
they do hit hard. they will hurt your ears, but they dont last. and they give poor sq. that's why im moving on.

i completely agree with you ttocs, however when my speakers went on me i wasn't going full tilt. we cant really argue how they blew, but i've blown enough to move on to a new speaker. the only weird thing was that the two cones that literally busted open did so in the exact same spot, same size, everything. i was reccommended a listening zone and didn't exceed that. but whatever. kicker isn't for me.
Maybe there is a difference between the L5 and L7. I have had several L7 and only had a problem with one. I know the earlier model L7's were built the best, but the new model year L7 have been completely redesigned. If they are not for you, they are not for you. I just wanted to share that I have ran kicker subs for the past12-13 years and have only had one speaker fail and Kicker warrantied the sub with no questions.
One thing some people dont realize is that you can blow a sub by not having enough power also. Not saying that was your case. Yours seem like bad luck. To little power and you wont have full or proper control over the motor srtucture i.e. the cone.
i would say it has been bad luck also because i have had one L5 last over a year in the car, and now it's just sitting on my work bench cause i dont use the 12 any more.
I ran into a guy who had lemon logged two fords the other day, and obvioulsy ford isnt a bad brand. I just dont want to waste any more time with subs out of the car and money thrown into the fire.
i shouldn't have said kicker is bad, because they have put out some good products in the past, but they have a bad rep because of situations like mine, i guess.

you can never blow a sub having too little power as long as the signal isn't clipped fyi, motor structue isnt the cone, its the magnet, top plate, bottom plate.
lemon logged as in when you get a car so bad that the problems can't be fixed. its basically like going to the BBB and filing a complaint because the car is that bad. the car doesnt fall withing the quality requirements. stuff like that. i mnot really sure what happens with the car, but here's an example of ohio's lemon laws. http://www.lemonlawamerica.com/state_laws/ohio.htm
