Default Kid with a sound problem

Just now starting on my new system on my stock 92 5.0 lx hatch.
Here's the list:
1000 Watt amp, 2ohm
(2x) 6" 400 W
(2x) 5" X 7"s 450 W
(2X) 10" Subs 600 W peak 300 continuous power, 4 ohm rated.
Brands? I wont even waste my time mentioning cause I admit I skimped on that part.
Wrapped her up with 18 gauge rockford Fosgate wiring all-way round, and fired her up. Connections are clean. But barely approaching mid volume level she distorts and blurs, My guess is I may have skimped to far on the Amp? Of course I may be wrong. I must admit I am pretty proud of at least fully installing it on my own. What am I missing? I want my chest pounding bass...
Don't hesitate to ask questions if I missed anything, I'm open to all suggestions and criticism.

are the subs or the mids distoring first? If you are not sure disconnect the rca's on the amp and see how loud the mids get, then plug in the subs and see if they sound bad. have you added x-over to the mids to take the bass out of them?

Actually I have everything up to the Amp, mids are distort first. Crossover does not seem to be helping.

Disconnected speakers and now have just the subs hooked in, but subs distort at high volume. The only reason I did turn the volume to high was to see how much bass I could get out of my subs. But still even just the subs on the amp I get hardly anything, at least no where near the chest pounding bass I expected. And this is the wiring set up I'm using with my subs, http://akamaipix.crutchfield.com/ca/..._4-ohm_2ch.jpg

well if u have nt so good equipment dont expect them to perform like someone elses that has put the time and money into theirs.

poor equipment=poor performance.

you get what you pay for but sometimes not even that

If you can't tell what you bought why did you buy it? Doesn't make sense to me.....

Also makes it difficult to diagnose since every speaker has a different capability......

i'm not an expert, but i've never heard of those speakers. generally speaking as a musician, you're better off to spend the money on speakers and go mediocre amps. i did a complete Fosgate system in one of my previous vehicles (with a lot of help) and it was the best and most frustrating mod I ever had. it sounds like you have too much power for the speakers to handle, but that's just an educated guess. you should check too what the rms wattage is on both the speakers and amps. those numbers need to be close to get the most out of your system.

ok well im going to start off by saying that amp is not giving you 1000w.... it is not a true rated amp, it is a claimed rated amp and all true rated amps are done at 4 ohm, not 2... and like some of the other guys have said you get what you pay for, and that why you are hearing distortion from your speakers. and with your chest pounding bass statement it takes alot of time and alot of work and cash to get that, for true chest pounding bass that is.

honesty you may not realize it but that 18 gauge wiring is not helping at all.. the bigger you can go the better, even if the connection is reduced down, it will deliver alot cleaner and alot better sound.

i would start with the wring, upgade that and then start with replacing the amp and speakers as you get the funds to do so, there is nothing wrong with starting out small but in doing so you cant expect award winning results, there are lots of different angles to look at this from and being a competitor for going on 4 years and working along side of 2 competitors that have a couple of world championships and reocrds held we should be able to come up with whats going on and where to get you where you need to be. let me know what you have done or if you want more information
