Default Sub and amp?

Hey guys,

I recently found a diy article on how to hook up an amp and sub to factory shaker 500 systems. But I know absolutely nothing about them. So I am asking to be pointed in the right direction

Music- I love metal with a lot of double bass so the kick has to be there.
I listen to alot of prog (dream theater, porcupine tree, etc...)
no rap or techno

budget- I dont want to be spending a crap ton of money on this.
Something that gives a good kick with out breaking the bank

Can you point me in the right direction?

Thanks Matt

If you don't want to waste any money, make sure you learn as much as you can and research everything before making a purchase. I'm just beginning a simple project of a sub, and cost is adding up real quick. It's the little things that you don't think of. Sure amp and sub cost a good bit, but you have to buy MDF board, cut it to the correct dimensions (saw, blades, etc.), assemble it (screws, powerdrill, wood glue, silicon), pad it and wrap it (poly mat, auto mat, snot spray), attach amp and sub in trunk (more screws), power it (power cable, ground cable, RCA cable, fuses, hardware), wire amp to sub (more wire, and of course these are all different gauge wires), etc etc

I've bought Phoenix Gold parts in the past, they seem to be decent quality. That's what sub I'm installing now, and hopefully I can find another decent Phoenix Gold amp to match...

But that's just personal opinion...

if you are just wanting a simple add-on sub take a look at some simple amplified subwoofers that have the amp/sub/enclosure all in one. Infinity bass-link and SAS bazookas are systems that I have used and been happy with as simple add-ons but there are a number of different systems made that would work. This also takes the guess work out of getting the correct box, matching the sub and amps impedence, and normally gives you a remote bass controll so you can turn it up or down.

cool thanks for the info guys!

If I were to just add one sub I would need a 1 channel amp right? What is the difference in channels, etc?
Im looking for something around the 500 watt range, I think that will match the shaker pretty well, what do you think? Any set up reccomendations?

Thanks
Matt
