Default Amp or sub problem ?

Hi all,

I have a weird problem...

Randomly this evening, my bass decided to quit. OK, so I head home, and do a bit of troubleshooting. Here's the results:

- Sub (one single 12" in sealed enclosure) will give off, normal, increasing bass until head unit is at roughly about half volume. Then, it will stop producing lows, and give some really nasty higher-frequency distortion crap (head unit is set to 100Hz low-pass filter).

- My amp, an MTX RFL300D, has 3 LED indicators on it. One for power, one for thermal protection mode, and one with a lightning bolt (I have no idea WTF the lightning bolt is for). Said lightning bolt LED lights up as the sub is distorting when the head unit's volume is pushed higher.

- My amp's power LED never turns on. Unless the lightning bolt LED is flickering, the amp shows no signs of actually being powered... but it is, because if it wasn't, the sub would be completely dead, no ? I also hear the internal fan of the amp running, so I know it's getting power.

All fuses are good and I can't see anything wrong with the wiring. All the equipment is less than 2 months old... I'm leaning towards to my amp being fubar'd... Anyone have any ideas otherwise ?

Wish I had better advice than to just make sure the power running from the battery is the correct impedance. You not might have a blown any transistors if you blew the fuse, changed it, and everything sounded as it had when it stopped working.

My amp is not receiving power anymore, either. I am putting it in my new Mustang and hopefully it'll work again. Good luck with your amp.

Use a meter to check the power on the amp. The fuse maybe somewhat blown and still giving the amp power but just not enough power to turn it on....Is it a barrel type fuse? The fuse may look fine but is blown you just cant tell, just take your meter and check the power wire at the amp see what that reads. Check that first.
