Looking for a new amp
So I've been powering my 8" L5 solobaric with a Rockford Fosgate Power 4505. It recently died and I'm looking to replace it. The solobaric runs at max 300rms/600 peak (4ohm dual voice coil).
I was looking at the following:
1. Kicker Mono ZX750
2. Rockford Fosgate T500-1bd
Anyone have either of these? Know anything about them? Any recommendations?
I also welcome other suggestions. I'm looking for a mono amp only. I have a Kenwood on one of my other cars and an mtx on the other.....but I tend to go with a little nicer amp in the saleen (although I have been impressed with the kenwood mono amp I have).
One other question: My old amplifier used to overheat and go out all the time. Is it better to get an amplifier with a stronger RMS rating and just turn it down a little?

kind of hard to beat that amps power for the cost. i plan on running the bigger brother 3k on my car.
it would overheat because of your gain settings. you where prob clipping the signal. a clipped signal creates alot of heat.

TK3 - I appreciate your enthusiasm to answer questions but if I can ask you to read a little more before you respond it will help us all.
Amps can overheat because they are turned up too loud but it is generally because they are being taxed with a low impedence load from the subs and the way they are wired(or bridged). By bridging amps/subs it does give more power but at the cost of building more heat. When this happens turning the gain down can help but will not help the situation much since you are trying send them as much power as possible.
That amp is a 2 channel amp that is also 2 ohm mono stable. It would drive a sub or two if they are bridged correctly.
Between RF and klicker I would go with RF. Kicker is just available at too many flea markets anymore.....
