Stock Cd changer broken?
So my stock unit stopped working on saturday. Usually, i'll hear some noise comming out of it when i try to play a cd/eject cd/or switch to another. Now i hear nothing at all, just CD ERROR.
It happened right after i put a new cd in one of the open slots....it went in ok, then BAM: CD ERROR. From then on, i get no response from the cd player whatsoever. Radio works fine tho, fyi.
Anyone have anything similar happen? Should i take it out and mess around w/ it; or is it most likely done for good?
thanks in advance

I fixed a buddy's changer the other day. Sometimes they get a little confused and lock up. By simply unplugging the cable on his, counting to 5 and then plugging it back in the changer was able to reset itself and has been working fine since.
If it works for you then you will also be getting my bill in the mail........
If it doesn't then we can try technical taps but the price will go up!

Mine is doing the SAME EXACT thing! I'll try the reset but then will be looking for something to replace it with. Any suggestions?
So, you just unplug the harness from the back of the radio, wait 5 seconds and plug it back up? Man, I hope this works. I really don't want an aftermarket unit

oh sorry, there is little to do to fix those. You can try disconnecting power to it but it is a band-aid. You can pull the harness on the radio or you can even do the easy way by pulling the fuse. You will know if you pulled the right one as all your radio stations will reset and the clock will be wrong. No I don't know which one to pull, check your manual...
This might make the changer forget the programming that ford gave it. They have programmed the changer to lock up when it detects that it has your favorite disks......

OK. I know that I'm bringing this thread back from the dead, but I've been out of town for a while and just got back.
Yesterday morning I pulled the head unit from the dash and unplugged all 3 plugs. I let it sit for a minute while I drank a beer, then plugged everything back up and re-installed the head unit. It has worked flawlessly since then. It ejects, loads and plays CDs from any of the 6 slots now.
Oly time will tell how long this will last, but as for now

in a cd changer there are alot of tight tolerances and limit switches installed to keep it from going to far and doing damage. If your changer is moving and you hit a bump for example it can skip the limit switches and at that point it will stop and show an err to keep from doing damage. When you reconnect power most electrical devices will automatically track back to their factory location and reset itself. It just gets confused basically.
