After living with this a while, I have to admit that I am not satisfied. I'm going to take 03_GT_Reaper's advice and go for all 6.5" this weekend.

Im just thinking a bracket with 6.5"s will be your best option. Fortunately for me when I took out the mach audio rack in the trunk of my 03 the speaker holes were big enough for 6x9's and so I replaced those with focals. I also replaced the front 5.25's with focal components. I also utilized the front tweeter mounts in the door just by making out some cardboard cutouts and putting the focal tweeters in there. That way no one knows I have aftermarket speakers, it appears that I just have the mach audio system. If you need anymore help/advice, I am an amateur installer. Just let me know.

My car has a different config. All 4 factory locations are 6x8. No tweeters in the pillars

I bought some Fosgate 6 1/2" that come with adapter plates so it should be a quick and painless job. I also got a Fosgate sub that I'll build a sealed enclosure for just below the deck.

Well, The Fosgate solution is working well. I've got 4 6 1/2" and one 8" sub. The reason for the 8 is that I installed all three back speakers below the deck and did not modify the top of the deck. The elevated slim box I made is suspended by the deck understructure so I can have all three speakers produce optimal bass. Fosgate's site shows the air volume factors. It could have more bass with 10s or 12s but I wnated to preserve the seat pass through.

Thanks everyone for your advice onthis project. My original idea di NOT work out as I expected and some of you warned me of this.

Mike
