What are you guys replace the stock 8in subs with?? the way i understand it, the sub is in a ported incloser, any one know the cubes of it

i want to have alittle more basse but i dont want to pull all the wiring and amps for the 500 out
what is the power rating of the 8s amp?

Your best, simpliest bet is a powered sub added to the trunk. Leave the door subs as they are. They are custom designed for the Shaker system, like them or not. You can't really effectively replace them with anything else without really confusing the electronics of the head unit.
You can run a live audio link from the speakers in the back deck to the powered sub in the trunk. Bazooka are the easiest to install.
Good luck.

If you are going to do that - check out Crutchfield. They have a custom enclosure for the 2005 Mustang with or without 12" sub included. 5.0 Magazine did a review of it that seemed to make it worth its money. You'd have to use an amp though as it is passive.

I don't understand your comment. How are you going to "confuse" the head unit by replacing the pathetically crappy stock speakers with something descent? If he wants to keep the stock amps it isn't that difficult to find a descent set of subs that will out perform the stock speakers and still work fine with the stock amps. The stock subs are 1.2 Ohm speakers with dual voice coils rated at 60 watts per coil. The resistance of a speaker coil is usually about 3/4 of the rated impedance. If you Ohm them out with a multimeter you will see that what they are rated at and what they actually are is two different things. They are closer to 1.6 Ohm. Crap can them and replace them with a set of JL Audio 8W3V2s. They Ohm out at 1.7 Ohms. They are dual voice coil speakers so they will work fine. The factory amp is probably rated to drive very low impedance speakers so it can have decent power without having to step up the DC voltage coming into the amp. And it also means it will not put out it's rated power into the new speakers. But that is not a big deal because the performance of the new speakers is going to over ride the lack of wattage ( which is going to be minimal ).

Only thing you are going to have to do is make modifications to the sub box in the door. You can do this one of two ways because the change needed is minimal. The motor on the factory speakers is pretty small. So you will either have to cut a hole in one side of the box for the motor on the new speaker and then patch the hole with some fiberglass, or I have also seen people that have heated up the box with a heat gun and pressed the speaker in to the box expanding it around the speaker. Either method works fine.

Another speaker that will work great is the MTX T5508-44. Although it will take a bit more modification to the box because of the depth of the speaker.

Im trying to figure out the same thing. My car comes stock with the shaker 500 but i dont know what to add for the best sound. I was thinking a custom box in the spare tire spot in the trunk. Any comments?
