Default Door Speakers '09 GT

Has anyone done 6.5 components in the doors and still left the 8" in place? Or is 5.25 all I'll get away with?

You can do components AND leave the Shaker 8's. The only downside is finding a place to stick the tweeters. I was also told that the Image Dynamics 5x7 convertible component set sounds quite nice in Ford/Mazda vehicles, but I have yet to hear them.

Sounds good, thanks. I have always liked and had great sound from the JL components. Although I haven't used an 8" in the past. So I was kinda thinking a set of 5.25 components and then using the 8" maybe a set of kickers for a mid bass driver. I have an older set of really nice kicker mr 100 crossovers that should work well for 8" mids.

Keep in mind, this isn't my install, but I was thinking along these lines in the beginning:

Relocate that power mirror controller then build the sails to house the tweeters.
***********

This is what I ended up doing instead:

Looks stock, but I am using a 4" full range driver in the 6x8 location and a Mach5 Audio MLI-65 in the 8" location via some Target cutting board baffle rings:

Nice. I like the tweeter idea. Still kept a very factory look relocating the mirror switch.

First I tried freezing a sub overnight, thinking that would make the adhesive brittle and lift easily. Well, that didn't work out so well.

Afterward, I carefully used a heat gun and a screwdriver to pry the grill loose. The only downside to using the heat gun was that part of the subwoofer surround lifted from the basket. In my case, that was a moot point because one of my door subs had a bad voice coil from the prior owner of the car.
