Default WTF! I miss the Skipper500

Today I got pissed at the Skipper and decided to go to Car Toys and replace it. I didnt wanna spend a ton, so I got this one (still ended up spending $350).....

Now the stereo sounds like complete ***. The skipper sounded 10 times better. The installer at car toys says he cant hear a difference. I think he has hearing damage.

The music cuts in and out, there is either no bass or way to much bass, and the music sounds hollow. It almost sounds like a radio in a room with no carpet or furniture, it just kinda echos. Dont really know how to describe it, but it is not right.

The deck is the only thing changed, so what gives? Is that just a POS deck or did they install something wrong?

Sounds like he reverse wired the + and - on the speakers. Hollowness and lack of bass is a symptom of this.

If the bass changes drastically when you fade from front to rear or move the balance from left to right, chances are something is wired out of phase.

I'm stereo stupid, so bear with me. Are the lower door speakers supposed to fade in and out with the balance or do they stay on all the time cuz they are mini subs? When I change the L R balance, the lower door speakers still have bass. They dont turn off. If they are supposed to go off when you adjust the balance between the left and right side, then I know they wired it wrong.

Oh, and thanks for the help!

They used a harness that works for an f150 too. They said it is the same.

You mean the woofers in the door? Yes, they stay on all the time.

ok great, so the bass just sounds as though it is not as strong right? Do you happen to know if they used the rca outputs on the deck? Does it have a subwoofer control that you probably have turned up real high?

Not sure what they did, but I took it back this morning and had a different installer yank it out and check it. He said it was wired wrong. He redid and it sounds great now.

Now I am regretting getting such a cheap deck. Think I am gonna go back tomorrow and get the next model up. They have a 14 day return policy, so it shouldnt be a problem.

Thanks for all the help!
