Default Shaker500?

So.. I haven't exactly gotten my Mustang yet but I'm about to. I just wanted to know if it would even be possible to simply add a sub and amp to the headunit. But I imagine that the headunit only has enough channels for the speakers. A friend of mine has an audio shop and he says that I could just add it to the stock system but I dont think he has ever tried doing this so I dont think he knows what he is talking about. But could I do that at all or should I just replace it all? I have the money but I would like to leave whats in it because it sounds pretty good and to save the money.

Yes, you can just add aftermarket subs. You just need to tap into the speakers in the rear deck and convert the signal to RCA to plug in to the amp. I did it with my Shaker 1000, I had the stock system and two Kicker 12" CVX's powered by a zx750.1 amp, plenty of bass... Destroyed the trunk, actually.

Also, switching to an aftermarket deck really wakes up the stock speakers...

Which head unit are you referring to? If it is the Shaker 500, there are already preamp outputs. You can find them in an 8 pin plug in the radio harness.

Or in the driver's side Kick panel plug where the stock Shaker 500 amplifiers are housed:

EDIT: Wow, I just realized that the Shaker 500 setup was balanced. At least that is what I am assuming from the +, -, shield connections (i.e. Tip/Ring/Sleeve).

Thanks for the help everyone. I'll let my friend know how he should do it just so it saves some time and issues.
