'98 Convertible -- Need Help bad~!
Ok, recently purchased a '98 Convertible V6. I don't believe it has the Mach system installed do to the fact I don't see those words posted anywhere. I bought this vehicle from the original owner who never really took care of much or upgraded anything at all.
I am now fixing some defects on the door panels and at the same time I want to up grade the stereo and speakers. My first thought was purchasing some new speakers for the door and rear. I want some decent sound, not looking for booming base, but a good sound. I hear its hard to grab a good sound with my top down, but I wanna try my best but stay pretty reasonable in price.
First I can't decided on putting in component speakers or staying with the size that are inside already. I know adding the tweeters for the component will take a few extra steps, but I am willing to do this. Can anyone put some insight on what's better for a convertible either 3 way or component?
Now my next issue which goes in hand with the speaker issue. I am purchasing my head unit from Cruchfield so I can get everything I need to install. It wants me to choose the type of wire harness I need. Now how to I know if my stock system is being amplified?
This can make a big issue on the types of speakers I choose as well. Please any help would be appreciated.

For speakers I don't have much knowledge on components but to my knowledge components are setup to be 3 way so you shouldn't need tweeters again I could be wrong. You will also need to fab up a bracket to install the components inside your door as well.
For standard speakers you will use 5X7 however some 6X8s will fit as well.
One thing I highly recommend is rewiring the whole car. The stock wire can be and is extremely difficult to work with and while it takes a little bit of time to run new wire you will actually save time by doing so rather than working with the stock wire.
For the wiring harness adaptor just go to any local audio store or best buy and get one, same for the wire and install kit. Reason I say this is just in case something doesn't work or has an issue it'll be easier to get the exchange done. Also look at sonicelectronix.com for some good priced stuff as well. Once you find a brand you like I'd also check on ebay to see what kinds of deals you can find on there.
I found all clearance DLS speakers, subs, and amps on ebay for an amazing price, even when compared to cheaper online outlets.
