Angry Mach 460 door woofer cutting off and on

I searched the forum, but couldn't find an an answer to this. I've got an 04 GT coupe w/mach 460 sound system. I blew my passenger side front 5x7. I had bought a Infinity 6820cs component speaker set (Infinity Reference 6820cs 5"x7"/6"x8" component speaker system - Features & Specs at Crutchfield.com) to replace the speakers a while back, but never got around to installing them. After installing the aftermarket 5x7's, the replacement speakers cut in and out. The volume is only about 1/4 of the max volume. When I bought them, the rep at Crutchfield assured me they were drop in's and I wouldn't have a problem. I've read conflicting info over the net as to what will work and what won't. I've read that the mach 460 speakers are 3 ohm?? I know the aftermarket's are 2 ohm, so could this be the problem?

All the wiring is factory and the new speakers came with factory connectors. I didn't have to splice any wires when hooking up the aftermarket speakers. The factory speakers were working properly (except the blown speaker) prior to taking them out. The speakers pop slightly prior to cutting off, then come back on for a few minutes. The cutting on and off repeats. It only seems to become a problem, when there is bass present in the song. Maybe the amp is going into protection mode due to the load presented? If so how can I get the ohms where they need to be.

Bottom line is I'm frustrated and need help!! Thanks in advance for any assistance.

The mach 460 system is wired at 6 ohm from the amps that is then split/converted to 3 ohm so in short yes it will cause a problem. The speakers are made to opperate at 2 oh at a certain frequency, the mach 460 system does the same. So in short you have 2 problems, a lower ohm load for the speakers which means they're not getting the right rms load to them and secondly your probably having frequency issues. So in short you really can't run too much off of the factory 460 stereo as its made to run its own components and only its own components. To run anything else you either need to change it all to after market or really do some home work and a lot of guess work and get the right converter to opperate your aftermarket components.

Thanks for your incite! I forgot to state that I only used the 5x7s from the component set. The aftermarket tweeters/crossovers have not been used at this point. I have a couple more questions for you if you don't mind.

1. What do you mean by frequency issues?
2. What kind of converter are you speaking about & could it fix the issues?
3. Would it correct the issues if I replaced the factory amp with an aftermarket amp that is 2 ohm stable?
4. Could I use the factory wiring with an aftermarket amp?

I really appreciate your help. When I was in high school I used to dabble in car audio....but that was a long time ago. Just trying to find a cost effective solution to my problem as my family takes precedent over my audio needs now.

Is the factory radio still in the car? If it has been replaced then you can just tap the tweeter signal after easily bypassing the factory amp. You do not want to use the factory amp with ANY aftermarket speakers, they do not work well together with the difference in the impedence(ohms rating)

Everything in the car is factory with the exception of the 5x7 in the lower front doors. I've come to terms with the fact that I'm going to have to replace the factory amp that runs the 5x7's in the front doors. Will I need to run all new wires or can I use the factory speaker wires and amp wires?

just replace the radio and bypass the factory front amp. You can still run the subs, get better performance and run the new speakers fine the way I said. Want blue tooth or ipod controll? Now is your chance.
