Default Any of you swapped to Mach audio?

Hi all,
I have a 95 Mustang with the basic, plain, non Mach audio system. I got the entire system out of a wrecked car on Craigslist and everything fit in (for the most part) pretty well. Have any of you out there with the base radio swapped it out for the Mach 460? If so, how easy was it for you and what kind of wiring tricks did you have to use? Just curious....I've finally gotten the rear tweeters and speakers to work (splicing wires), and the front tweeters and speakers to work (more wiring splicing), but I can't get the amps to work nor the headunit.

Thanks for any feedback/experience!

Waste of time IMO. You would have been better off going all aftermarket. Get a single DIN or double DIN, and two sets of component speakers, or components for the front and some coaxial's for the rear with MAYBE a 10" sub and you would be just fine.

With the amount wire tracing and crap you have to go through to get the Mach 460 rear amp deck to work etc, it's not worth what you get out of it.

Only reason I haven't upgraded the 460 in my Mach 1 is because for a factory system it's good enough for me. If i was to ever upgrade, I would bypass ALL of the facotry wiring and rewire the system myself instead of figuring out the retarted wiring colors Ford did on the 460 lol

Given the money, my next system would be a single DIN headunit with built-in cross over ability for fine tuning, some Boston Acoustic SC 60 component for the front SC85 coaxial (direct drop in) for the rear deck, an amp and a 10" sub for extra "oomph" down low.

Right now I'm running the stock 460 system with an added 10" sub.

*Sigh*
I didn't ask for opinions on whether or not you would have done it. I don't care for the look of aftermarket systems, which it had an aftermarket deck in it, and that's why I wanted to swap to the Mach.

However, I agree, the wiring is a pain in the ****. I've gotten everything working now except for the amps, but I think I figured out a way to bypass the factory wiring and get it hooked up anyway. I've already figured out how to wire in the 6 disc changer deck I have, I just have to get a different radio bezel as my current deck is setup for a single din vs. the 6 disc changer's double din.

Anyway....once I'm done with this car it won't be a DD anymore, so I don't need anything aftermarket anyway.

unless you pulled all the wiring hrn's which include the ones that go through to the doors, it is a waste of time. also be aware that the door panels are different, you will need to modify the tweeter housing or the door panel to get the two to work together.

Yes, I already modified the tweeters, those are installed and working perfect. That part wasn't that hard, I just cut off the bottom portion of the housing and fed the wiring down to the door speaker. Pretty easy overall.

I went from a Mach 460 to 1000 and I have a full write up on that in the tech stickies, but going from the factory OEM to Mach 460 or 1000 may be a little bit more trickie.

I can say this, the Mach 460 sounds much better than the new Shaker 500. The Mach 1000 is awesome for a factory unit. No it's not aftermarket, but pretty god darn good. Only real problem is the bass can get a little distorted sounding during hard or repeated burst, but it takes a trained ear to hear it. Other than that it's pretty amazing for factory.

Well just trying to save someone from wasting time and money but if you don't want to listen, I don't care. If you installed it right, you wouldn't even know you had an aftermarket system in the car...
