Power Wire Length?
Hey guys, hopefully someone can help me out on this. I do have currently I think a 4 gauge power wire for my amp/sub setup. However i'm redoing my setup & need two 0 gauge power runs.
I have no idea the length of my current wire & am going to buy a 50ft roll of 0 gauge. Does anyone know the approx length from battery to trunk, not just behind the back seats, but to about 3/4 of the way under the spare tire board. Basically to touch the trunk.
I don't know if 50ft will be enough, as i will also need a few spare feet to run a battery to alt pos wire for the big 3 upgrade as well. so 45 feet would probably be what is allotted to 2 battery to distro runs from the front.
I also have never worked with 0 gauge before and don't know how (un)flexible it is/may be. Is 0 gauge hard to run in the stang? How about routing from engine to firewall area? I live in the south, outside temps do exceed 100+ in the summer + engine bay heat. Should I put black plastic stuff (like stock has) around wiring? Also could I double side tap a fuse holder for the 2 runs to the top of my battery? Would double sided tape hold up to heat, or what is a glue/sticky substance which has high heat tolerance for not melting?

what amps are you planning on running that need dual 0 awg? At that point you will need to consider a bigger alt as well as possibly a 2nd battery if the amps reall need that much. You will probably need to drill the holes in the firewall for 2 cables that big.
Therefore I'm going to just run two 0 gauge wires from battery to the back, so that it doesn't need to be done later. Just install new amp & alt & done. Don't think I will need a 2nd battery though. I already have one yellow top. A H/O alt should be enough of an upgrade to allow me to run a 2nd one of those amps I listed. I'm getting a double input double output 0 gauge fuse holder for the front for the battery & a double 0 gauge input power distro block for the amps. So I mean the power wire will be plugged into a distro block all ready.
I'm planning on mounting the amps on top of the carpet/board that covers the spare tire. I'm going to buy a piece of plywood & I already stripped the carpet off that cheap particle board stuff that covered the spare tire. Going to reglue it back to a piece of plywood & have all my holes predrilled for the amps.
Edit: I just don't feel like taking the car apart just to remove my power wire to find out the length, & have to put the car back together for a week until parts arrive, then have to take it all back apart again.
Edit:Pulled up 05+ mustang specs. I got 15 feet for total car length. I would imagine from battery to back would be about 2-3 feet less. Two 25 foot runs should be enough, but I just want verification from someone, because it doesn't just go in a straight line. It will have to run down from battery then back through firewall, then around seats & stuff & this takes inches & inches off what you have & then I could see me being one foot short in the end & have to pay for like a whole new 26 foot 0 gauge wire, when I have a 24 foot one & am 2 feet too short for example.
