Default Shaker 1000 replacement question

From my google searches I have found that the shaker 1000 unit in my 05 gt doesnt have auxillary or usb ports which is a bit of a problem for me. I used the usb port on my last stereo everyday. Is there a newer stock unit that will slide right in or is aftermarket the only way to go? If I do go aftermarket will it sound pretty much the same? I have a sony xplod system I can install but I am unsure how it will look in the dash even with a nice kit.

I also heard of something that can be wired in but I would rather replace the unit with a stock one with the ports I need if possible.

No I don't believe any of the stock mustang headunits, even current gen ones come with a usb input stick mode on them. You would have to put in a aftermarket one. It's really easy to do anyways. If you use the right dash kit it does look stock, & is probably near unstealable.

I can't even remember what the name of the kit was, but I think I used the same one as the tutorial on here for headunit replacement. But instead of the normal tab sliding thing with uninstall tools I bolted mine to the plastic frame of the dash kit. You would have to rip my whole dash apart & uninstall 4 screws to get the headunit out. I have a Pioneer Avic D3 though which is a double din navi unit.

Thanks for the info, one question about replacing the head unit though. I want to keep the rest of the system stock. Are there rca connectors for the amp or will I have to do some wiring magic to keep them?

PAC makes a nice interface that will allow you to keep everything.

With the other aftermarket harnesses, you either need a resistor or a 7805 transistor to reduce the remote turn-on voltage from your aftermarket radio. The stock Shaker amplifiers take a 5 volt remote turn on and aftermarket head units put out 12 volts. As a result, you get a horrific pop. The PAC interface harness is supposed to address this issue whereas with other wiring harnesses, you will have to do it yourself.

dont under estimate a theif. My 2006 Convertible was broken into about 2 months ago.The damage total was close to $8000($4400 being the stereo). The dash and a/c controls were busted up and all the wiring was cut. I got it repaired back to stock and got rid of it before something worse happend.
