Default DIY head unit Nexus 7

so I've seen so many nexus 7 installs but i want to have an amp built in, plug and play box style, I'm getting stuck some places and most of my parts are still shipping from china, should be here within the week. but ill start with what I've got and try to remember to give credit where credit is due. ill try to keep up with prices as well.

i got my shopping list from here: https://mustangforums.com/forum/audi...l-project.html

pretty thorough, but like i said, i want the whole thing built and ready to plug right in. i also added a few of my own contributions that make it super smooth to install, no dremeling on the car

90 degree micro usb 2.0 plus charging:

4*100 watt class D amp

this fan cuz its only 5 bucks, and if you are gonna put a fan on it why not make it red led? all the slivers of space will glow red from behind, hopefully lol.

i built the box out of lexan, i hate cutting acrylic (i have no patients for slicing that crap a million times and i allways manage to mess it up) so i bought extra, 8x10 inch sheet $4.24 each, i bought 4 and unbelievably got it right both times with the first two and did not need the last 2

you will need to cut one sheet (on the 10 inch side) into 6x8" and 4x8", then trim them down to 6x7.25" and 4x6" but save that 4x2" piece
repeat this with the next sheet of lexan.

i used electrical tape (just cuz its what was laying on my desk, painters tape would be better I'm sure) to hold the box together while i sealed it up and let it cure.

use plastic sealant 100% silicone sealant and smooth the bead, i didn't and it looks all right but a smooth bead is always nice.

now as far as the face plate, this was a cheap face plate only like 9 bucks when i bought it but it has a pretty far protruding bezel

i had originally decided to buy a cheap nexus case and hack it up to fit but after staring at it for a long time and a few drinks i whipped out the dremel and started cutting away, its a little sloppy but i'll clean it up and sand it down before the final install. and as far as holding it in place, im going to get some thin black foam double sided tape, to go between the front bezel and the nexus surface, front and back, enough to absorb shock and hold it in place but not so much it is a pain in the *** to get it all off.

those two 4x2" pieces are gonna be used for holding the plug in place and other general mounting purposes and they give the box a lot more structure wile still allowing for some ventilation

(to come: cutting a hole in the top for the fan, mounting and wireing the amp, and rooting the nexus7 )

I do a lot of Nexus 7 tablet installs and have one of my one in my truck. The 2nd Gen has built in wireless charging capabilities you can take advantage of. You can use a wireless Bluetooth adapter to sync to the tablet and convert to read to go to your preamp or amp(s). The Nexus 7 is also magnetic so you can make your own magnet mounting or slide in. Soundman makes some now but he is way overpriced for what you can make one yourself for.

Sorry, to add to my other post, the advantages of using Bluetooth with wireless charging and magnet mounts means no wires to connect, no docking station to create, theft proof, ect
