Default Remote Start

Here's my question/question's, How exactly do they work? What do you do with your key? How do you turn your car off? If someone could give me walk-through of how a remote start system works I would greatly appreciate it.

Basically the remote starter will alow u to start the car without u in it. This would be good for warming it up in the morning if its cold and to run the defrost. I think the "brain" of the remote start has a key in it so the car thinks its in the ignition. It pretty much jury rigs the ignition of the car. As for the key when u get in the car u must put it in the ignition and turn it all the way until right before you would start it. If you dont and u touch the brake pedal or gas it will shut the car off. If you decide u dont want to go anywere and u have your car running u can use the remote to turn it off. Or it would work as normal after putting the key in the ignition. Hope that makes sense. If it didnt ask and ill try n clear it up some

A remote start is nothing more than hot-wiring a car. You're just doing it with a bunch of relays and a remote controll.

You need a bypass module to trick the car into thinking that the key is in the ignition. Then when everything is installed like 97blackstang said it just contols by the push of a button. With the 99-04 mustangs you also need a relay. i just got a new alarm with remote start and I LOVE IT! It is only "legal" if you have an auto transmission. There is a way to bypass this but you have to find an installer that will do it for you but sometimes its hard because they dont want to be liable. You can also get a FAT ticket if you somehow get caught having it. If you have a stick then you just always have to have ur car in 1st gear (when you remote start it).

If someone takes the remote from you then yes. When you get a remote start I recommend getting one with security on it as well. And if you have security then no it'd make it harder for them to steal it. They'll be pressed to get the car away from where it is or be pressed to disarm the alarm. If they actually know what their doing and hot wire it then your car is good as gone anyhow right? Anyway something im working on for my alarm system is to put a tweeter in the side pillar and when the alarm is going off have it play like a 12k tone loud as hell, make it a little more annoying if someone is trying to steal my car.

Yeah also something to look at is a battery backup. So when someone tries to disconnect the power source of your car ie: (your battery) the alarm will still go off. With mine I got the glass break sensor and this backup system.
