Default Convertible values

New here. Posted my intro yesterday in the newbie section. Anyway, trying to decide how much to offer for a project car. Done research and have a pretty good idea how much it will take to restore. (I restored a 66 coupe previously, but its been 20 years ago). Wondering tho how much should I expect it would be worth once it were done in todays dollars. Imagine a '68 C code automagic standard interior, no a/c, power steering, but manual drum brakes all done to about as nice a condition as you'd find at any local car show. Not MCA judging original, but mostly repop parts in stock configuration, not a restomod. In a popular color like red. I've seen lots of ads and lots of asking prices, but really don't know what they are finally selling for. Wasn't looking for a convertible originally, but a rust-free specimen turned up right in my neighborhood. I know there's no money to be made, but don't want to find myself too far in the hole either. Any informed opinions appreciated.

Phil, If you can get pictures of the car in question people here can give you a ballpark figure of what it is worth.

Good luck and welcome to the forums.

I think if you don't go too crazy you could make a couple bucks with a vert. I think break even could be done fairly easily. Verts and Fastbacks do better that way.

Collector Car Market Review Value Report uses actual sale figures to come up with current values.

1968 Mustang----#5------#4-----#3------#2--------#1
2dr Convertible-$2350--$6275-$11075-$15825---$23075

Using real sale prices gives a CCMR a much more realistic value than the other pie-in-the-sky books.

Nada has average price at $26k with poor condition at $13k. I would say if it is done well you should get $20k or more for it. Heck I might buy it for $20k when you are done! Have fun and welcome .

Thanks for that link. I hadn't seen that website before. Seller is asking $14K and after tallying up the restoration parts costs and paint, I was thinking $11 or $12K, but now after reading these condition descriptions I'm thinking closer to $10K. It needs a few minor things to be a solid #3. I guess I was just to impressed after running 20 gallons of water through the cowl and then driving it around it didn't drip at all. It may take a few other people besides myself making low offers before he bites tho so we'll see.

I just bought a 67 convertible for $9,000 and he wanted $13,000. It is completely intact and unmolested, but needs restoration, some sheet metal patching, and is a I6/C4, but in my favorite color combination. Here is a couple of pics (it is very dirty from the trip up to CT from NC):

Post some pictures and we can give you a better idea.
