Default Floor

I finally managed to get these off the broken camera so that I would share some random pictures from when we did the floor pans back in November. I lost the before pictures but here are some of the "afters".

Driver's side:

Passenger side

New carpet in...

Scratch that off the list, little by little she is getting there.

What are those little metal pieces on the risers? Are those supposed to be there.

To be really honest with you...I am not sure what their called or what purpose they serve.

But they were there when we took the seats out so we put them back in on reinstall.

I found the orange wire that goes to the gas sending unit to be sort of funny...Before we put the carpet back in I shortened it by probably two feet (literally) and the fact their was duck tape holding it in place was sort of funny. With the way the kid that used to own it liked to Jerry rig things I had made a joke a few times I would eventually find some duck tape and then we really found some.

The spacers are necessary to keep the rails from digging into the carpet. Good thing is you can start the nuts and lift the seat and slide them in. The interior work looks great. I love your signature, it was only like $180,000 and I guess it was too little to show up much on his return, "Honest mistake" right? We now live in the "some can" and "some can't" country. Any of "us" would be put under the jail, Tom gets an "don't worry about it" and "oh by the way", would you like a cabinet position.

Here is a top and bottom view of them. The little curved section points down and fits the edge of the seat riser. When I took the driver's seat out there were one each under three of the bolts, but on the inside back bolt there were two - one on top of the other. I don't know why.

Nice looking floor. How were the toe boards. Did they get replaced too? What did you paint/coat with?

I wasn't sure what all would need replaced before we torn it all apart so I bought both toe boards but we ended up only replacing one that was bad. The other was fine as is.

My bad spots were different on each side. On the passenger side I had a decent sized hole right in front of the seat riser so that side's toe board was fine. On the driver's side the problem was more so where the toe board meets the floor pan so we went ahead and replaced that side.

Went ahead and put in new seat risers also because a friend had told me that by the time you have spent hours to try to separate the old ones from the old pans you will wish you had paid the $60 or so for new ones.

I could probably have gotten away with the front short pans but figured what the hell....if we were messing with it might as well get it all taken care of the first time.

The rear floor is solid but does have some light surface rust. I cut out a couple of maybe two inch by three inch patches for the back seat but most of it was solid.

We "painted" the pans with undercoat on both the top and bottom side.

I was glad while I had it torn apart we went ahead and looked at everything from frame rails to floors to trunk pan, etc. There was one spot on a frame rail where something had been bolted to it at some point and the edge of the old bolt hole had started to rust pretty bad. We patched that up with about maybe a three inch or so patch. The bad spot wasn't that long but I kept cutting till I got to solid metal that was harder to cut out.

While we were at it we took off the old rusted out exhaust that was on the car and put on some exhaust pipes I had found on Craig's list for about $100 or so. Not flowmaster or anything just stock style but a lot better then what I had.

It was a learning experience and I got to learn to weld in the process. Mig really is easy to learn. I can't take credit for all the welding though. I took it to a friend's shop and did a lot of it myself but I could only swing two or two and a half days off so they did some of it for me.

But I needed it at the shop anyway because while it was there they painted my roof, trunk, etc for me. I had some heavy surface rust around my drip rails and wanted to head that off before I had to consider finding a donor car for a new roof.

At some point I need to pull the back seat out to wire wheel the floor back there and coat it as well....just haven't gotten around to it yet. I have been working on scraping and undercoating the underside of the car in the back first.
