Rear ratio is always a comprimise. Primarily it depends on use, engine build, and transmission used.

For a T5 transmission and a high torque motor, I like a 3.55 as an all around gear; but I also cruise down the highway at 80mph a lot. If your goal is only around town, and want some spirited acceleration, then go with something a little bit lower, like a 3.75 or so.

I agree. I have a 302 with 350 hp and a T5 with 3.50 gears and its a great setup.

I have a 289 with a t-5 (.59 OD) and 4.11's

I haven't driven it yet but I think it should be a good setup for a car that will be mostly driven around town and on back country roads

If you have overdrive, in the 3.70's would be good. You may even go up to the 3.97 range if you are going to be on back roads or racing.
