OT 1962 Fairlane
We have a 1963 Fairlane that came with a 221 V8 and a 3 speed with Electronic Overdrive (now 289). We just took it to the trans shop as it is leaking from every where. I still runs shifts great just needs to be sealed.
My question is .....does anyone know how rare the 3 speed with Elec OD is in a 1962 2 door post Fairlane. Or anyone know how I can find out?
I finally convinced my son to keep the 3 speed instead of the 5 speed.

is that a 62 or 63 fairlane? either one sure is cool . i still have a 221 v8, always wanted to put it in a dune buggy or something light & add big dual exhaust . i'm not sure about the 3 speed electric overdrive's value since the newer 5 & 6 speeds came out. good luck with your fairlane.

On impulse, I almost posted that the AOD did not come out until like 81 or so, and that someone had obviously changed your tranny out...
Well duh... you did say 3 speed didn't you?
Sometimes I am a dumbass....
Anyway, there was a time when old "add on" (factory and dealer installed) overdrive units were pretty popular, I want to say that they would have been getting kinda rare by 63 though. Rare enough that I have never actually seen one in person.
I am trying to say kinda rare but not really "valuable rare", but for sure "cool rare", I would sport it proudly no doubt.
I THINK you will find it is a little "bolt on" unit on the back of the tranny.

My son will crap when he sees the drag car. We bought the car in Wyoming and drove it to Riverside Ca. We used the OD and got 20 mpg teamed up with the 289 V8. It is his daily driver. We have since put disc brakes up front, and a few maintanence things. (rear brakes, fuel pump, radiator, and now a rebuild on the 3 speed OD) I have posted pictures before but here is another one or two. Thanks for the info.
PS ITS A 62 not a 63
