Default overheating

I have a '69 mustang, 302. I replaced the hoses and thermostat. Now the motor heats up right away. I have been told to "burp' the engine, to eliminate the air pockets. I have tried , but with little or no success.
help!
thanks

How did you burp the engine? You need to pick the highest point possible to releave the air bubbles from. I usually use the water temp sensor or pull the heater hose off the 90* neck at the front of the engine. Make sure it's cooled enough that you won't get burned but I wouldn't wait until it's cold.

What temp Tstat did you put in? Did it have an 1/8" hole in it that should be pointed up and the point of the Tstat pointed towards the rad.

Do you have a fan shroud and what type of fan? thermostatic clutch?
Rad. size and # of cores?

I assume that it was cooling properly before you replaced the hoses and thermostadt? No "burping" should be necessary. If everything is in working order, the air should find its way to the radiator inlet, since it should be the highest point in the system. Are you 100% sure you put the thermostadt in the correct direction? It could also be a defective thermostadt. If it was working correctly before you installed the thermostadt in, I would put it back in and see if that is the problem.

Bad t-stat or in backwards perhaps or the lower hose is collapsing, but being it heats up right away I would look at the t-stat.

thanks. I am putting a different stat in wed. I hope i did not put the one in backwards. the one i put in is a fail safe type. if it fails, it is suppose to lock open. I will bleed air through temp sender. make sure it is in correctly. the bottom hose did not collapse. i don't know about a small hole in the stat. the radiator does have a shroud. standard pulley driven fan.
