Hi I have a 66 6 cy auto, just the other day it wouldn't shift into reverse or park, I disconnected the linkage and safety switch, and tried to move the lever on trans, the problem is in the trans, any ideas Thanks Dave

You did exactly what I would have done; try to isolate the problem to the linkage or the trans. Unfortunately there is very little you can do from the outside of the trans and it will probably have to be pulled.

 

All you have to do is drop the pan and take a peek. You will also most likely have to drop the valve body as well. Be sure to pay attention to where the kickdown lever sits along with the selector paw.
