Default Original engine?

Hi Guys!
I have a few questions about my Mustang, and I hope someone can help.

My car is a '68 302 Fastback registered first time December 31st, 1967.
The VIN/Warranty Number is: 8R02J126961

When I bought the car an additional engine with transmission followed. I can't find VIN or partial VIN on any of the engines. Both engines needs restoration - and I am to decide if I shall restore one of them or buy a brand new one.

The engine currently in the car has the block number: D2OE-6016-AB 2E15 and is (if I have decoded it right) definently not the original engine.

The extra engine is more interesting as the block number is: C8OE-6015-A and has the production date: December 22nd 1967. When I removed the intake manifold it said 302.
What bothers me is the 3rd letter "O" which indicates that it comes from a Fairlane or Torino.
As the dates match so well, I would like to know if it is possible that this block could have been used original for the car?
I have seen the same block-number on this page: http://www.mustangtek.com/block/C8OE-6015-A.html which gives me hope - not that it's a Shelby engine - but that it might be the engine the car was born with.
I will appreciate all thoughts and additional information concerning this!
The transmission number is: C8ZP-7D27-A/RF-C-OP/A704 OP/8R126961

One more thing...
The car has drum brakes both front and back today. I have heard that the 302 models originally came with disc brakes in front (and that might have been changed on my car) - can anyone confirm that?

Thank you for reading - and I look forward to your response.

Best wishes
Leander

disc brakes were an option..i had a 72 car and it had a 302 with manual drum brakes.

with that said there are no vin number stampings unless your car is rare like a boss or "K" code car etc the block with the c8 date code is closer but if it decodes for a torino etc then its not a mustang coded. imho unless you have a rare car like the a big block or hipo car then you should build the block you want...no one is gonna get under the car and check the date unless you're in a concours class so no one will ever know

I agree to your thoughts about the block, but in Denmark the value on the car increases quite a bit if it has matching numbers...

With a ford its date and casting code matching,Numbers matching means the cars vin is on the block trans and rear end gm did this it took ford a while to do it.With the casting code being close i wouldn't worry about it a mustang outside the usa is rare and most sell for a lot.On the disc they was only standard on Shelbys and boss everything else was a optional thing. But if its got factory looking disc it probably came with them.
