You might have a bad headlight switch. Which is not unusual for early mustangs.

are you talking about the actual switch, the **** that you pull out to turn on the headlights?

The headlight switch is the relay on mustangs, it's in the dash behind the ****. How did you wire in the new headlight kit you got? Whether you tapped into the original headlight wiring harness or another wire in the engine bay it sounds like you are overloading the circuit. How much amperage does the light kit require? and is it for the pair of lights or each?

What fuses are you blowing? Amp rating and location in fuse box (what does the fuse control normally?)
