Default Question about changing a camshaft

I'm considering some minor (I think) changes to my 260 v8 in hopes of gaining about 40 hp or so. I got some advice from Edelbrock on a carb, intake manifold, and mild cam. Also, I have dual exhaust but I think some headers might also help.

As for the camshaft, do I need to replace the cam bearings too? The engine was rebuilt less than 10k miles ago. If I didn't need to tear down the engine to replace the cam bearings then it would seem to be a simpler job.

What is the safe or best thing to do? I do plan on checking compression to see if things are in spec.

you should not have to replace cam bearings.

Be very careful when extracting the cam. The bearings are soft(ish) and will easily dent if contacted by sharp edge of a cam lobe or really any piece of the cam shaft.

put a couple of long bolt in the front of the cam to act as a handle so you keep it straight when you pull it out
