Grill for '67
ORIGINAL: Soaring
Well, I'll be switched.
You got me to thinking about the factory color of the grille, and after a bunch of research, you are right. The grille on the 65 should be warm gray, and the 67 should be dark argent. They look like the same color to the naked eye in pictues, and they even appear to be black from a distance, but they are not black as such. Good eye!

actually, the orrigionals were gray, there was even a spray paint made with the correct color
Yep, 65's have black grills.

The 65’s only looked gray because the crappy black paint fades. But 65’s are black also.
Cheers…..

Argent usually refers to a silver grey color. These are definitely not silver grey. They are more like gray/black. I guess that is why there is some confusion about them being dark grey or black. Hey, does it really matter.? The wind going through the grille doesn't care what color it is.

So, just to make sure... My 65 grill looks black, but is really gray, right.
Or, the correct gray colored paint when sprayed on my 65 grill, goes on looking black.
Or is it that a drunk Ford employee in 1965 mislabeled the black paint can, to say warm gray as a joke. And now we have the rest of the story!

hate to rain on all your guys parade but......65-67 grills are actually not black, nor silver, but actually a light silverish blue that was applied on all mustangs. In my research though, i have found that 65-66 recieved the bluish silver color, however only early 67 mustangs came with the bluish/silver color, and later 67 came with a complete blacked out grill. To be 100% correct however the grill on you 67 must be painted in the blue. IMO i think black looks 10 times better than the blue but, as most of you know, im a concours freak when it comes to this stuff, it really all falls down to what floats your boat

>>> The Mustang grille is finished in gunmetal gray to dramatize the galloping Mustang emblem "floating" in a rectangle at the center. The grille extends the sweep of the hood ahead of the single-mounted, seven-inch headlamps, and small scoop lines in the sheet metal grille fairing emphasize the forward thrust. The wing-shaped, wrap-around bumpers and standard-equipment bumper guards repeat the thrusting plan view of the hood.
