Default The bolts from hell...

It seems that on every Mustang there is that one bolt from hell. Well, I finally met my match and I have to ask for some advice. Im restoring my 67 and I've been trying to remove a pair of brackets from the back of my car for some time now. My father said these were for when the towing trunk pulled the cars to the dealership, and then they were supposed to take them off, but mine are still there. Well, I figure its dead weight so it can go. Well, I started the battle last year and it took me 2 days of off and on trying to get the passenger side one off. I havent been able to work on my car lately because of school and work, but now I have to get the other one out of the way. The hardest thing is that the bolts dont go into threads, its a stright shot through the frame and nuts on the other side. So I cant get any good force onto it. It just spins in the hole. Ive tried brute force, I've soaked it in WD40, Ive beat it the best i could in the small area, and as a last resort I gave it a good cussing. This one is NOT coming off. The nut is like, rusted into place. Today I took a heat gun to it and had it hot enough the undercoating was boiling but it didnt do anything. The only other thing I can think of is to get a torch and get her cherry red. What did you guys do to get past these monsters?

And were these brackets left on any of your guys cars?

Thanks

I'd use a nut breaking tool, and be done with it.

Good luck,

Scott

i dono about the brackets but i just got through a week of fighting to take off the rear bumper guards....wow what hell.....

keep WD40ing it....and keep working it back and forth.....if possible, get a metal hacksaw or dremel or whatever and just cut it if your not going to need it....heat might damage other parts of your car....but u might want to try it....

post a picture, i wanna see these.

Ok, I will try to get a pic tonight or tomorrow. I threw the other one awqaya, I probably should of kept it incase it would be worth anything to someone or whatever. I dont think I could get it with a saw because it is tucked in between the frame railing and the drop section of the gas tank. I couldnt use heat before because the tank was still in it but now it is gone. Heat isnt going to hurt anyhting because there is nothing there currently to hurt

I learned a little trick from my dad years ago after puting WD on a bolt and after it sets awhile. The first thing to do tighten the bolt first then loosen.
Worked everytime...

Well, it wouldnt kill me but dam it wouldnt be good sitting in front of a fuel line when that flame comes out. I tore my tank out and have a new one on the way, but Ill need to get new fuel lines and a float/sending unit because the lines are like, packed with gunk...
