Default Newbie to Stangs

Hi there...I've been a member for a little while, mainly to do some research before buying a stang. Well I finally bought one...1965 coupe. It's an original 289/Auto car that some has dropped a 302 into. Sucks for the originality but it leaves the options open for a restomod. It needs floor pans but that's about it....everything else is solid. I'll post some pics when I get some decent ones. She's been repainted her original color once before and its still holding up fairly well. My only question is did these cars come with a factory 9 inch in the tail. One of the guys I work with now worked for FoMoCo in the sixties and says he thinks they did but he couldn't remember for sure. Mine definately has a 9 under it. She's going in next week to get the floors done and then i'll start on the rest of the stuff.

Welcome to the hobby! Keeping you car concours correct is cool, but for me it would be too expensive and time keeping. Have fun either way!

The 65 came with either an I6 or a 289 V8. The differential on the 289 models are 8 inch rears unless it is a Hipo. The Hipos were the only Mustangs that came with a 9" rear in 65. However, since you have the 9 incher, that is just one upgrade you won't have to fool with. It could have been that it was a Hipo, and someone changed out the engine for the 302, and that would be a shame. Or they could have added the 9" rear. However, with the 302 and the 9 inch rear, you have a lot of possibilities to get some decent power. Good luck with those floors. If you need some help, let us know.

Thanks for the welcome. One thing I have noticed is that I have HiPo exhaust manifolds instead of the standard ones but my VIN breakdown doesnt show anything about the HiPo option.
