Default Drip Rails Problem

is it hard and expensive to replace drip rails??

my passenger side has a little bit of rust are after i was just sanding it down to see what was going on in there.....seems like a pain to replace....how do you even repair that? is there premade pieces you can buy to have someone weld it on for you like tail panels, quarter panels, etc etc....?

I replaced the driprails on my 68 coupe when I restored it. It wasn't too bad if you know the trick to getting them off and on. You can get them off easily with a bottle opener, kind of like opening up a bottle. Putting them on was as easy if you move from the front of the car to the back working slowly. You will probably ding it up a little but it should be too bad. I originally bought the repro's but I had a hard time getting them to fit. So I went down to the local junkyard and found a couple in good shape and they fit great.

That is some good information about how to take off and replace the drip rail mouldings, but I think he is talking about the drip rails themselves. Those are welded on. You have to drill out the welds, clean up the rust, replace roof metal, then replace with new drip rails. Not an easy or cheap job.

A lot of guys just cut out the cancer in the affected area and repair the drip rail in that one small area. It depends on how much roof damage you have. But, at any rate, you will have to peel back the head liner on the inside so you don't burn it with the welding you will have to do. Then, after it is repaired, you will need to prep and paint the area. Like I said, not easy or cheap fix.

i ripped my headliner out because it had tears and stuff in it, so its not even a factor.....

theres no roof rust....its just the actual rail.....hmm...

Then take out that rail area, and manufacture a new small roof rail to patch in. Otherwise, grind down the area around the rail area ,POR 15 the heck out of it, and put the putty back in.

im not clear on what por 15 actually is....is it paint that seals our rust? or paint that eats rust? or is there differnt kinds?

where do you get yours from?? order it or go to the store like kragen auto parts?
