Default Cam selection

I have new set of Edelbrock 1.94 alum heads (PN 60229) Try "Y" headers and now selecting the Edelbrock cam they say to use with this setup (See PIC below). Edelbrock has this setup as a dyno proven setup. Should I go with what they say or use another cam? I don't want to lose much vacuum because I have power brakes.....

Thi is the EDL-2122

Or should I go with this one?? Edelbrock EDL-7122

Or how about the Comp Cams # XE262H??

It depends on what kind of engine you want. The first edelbrock cam has lots of duration and not alot of lift. the comp cam has lots of lift and a little less duration. Both are good but will provide different engine characteristics. The second edelbrock cam doesnt really compare to the other 2. Its more agressive then both, and would give you more overall power. I guess it depends on what yer lookin for in yer engine. With those heads (and i know they arent cheap) i would get your moneys worth and go with that bigger cam. But your tranny and rearend gears will play a factor on that as well. What gears do you have?? Also do you have a manual or auotmatic? If you have an automatic what stall converter do you have? Also whats induction like?

I have a rebuilt rear 8 inch with 3:55 gears and a richmond locker. I want to have good TQ and a nice lope keeping in mind I have power brakes.. Its a street machine for shows and stuff like that. I have no plans on racing it at the track... I was looking to get close to 350 or so HP.. WHat's you're thoughts?

I would likely go with the first one then, it seems like it would match that 500 cfm carb the best. I think with those heads 350 shouldnt be out of reach with the right tuning. We all know the heads on a SBF are what needs to be adressed the most.

I used the RPM for a few years, it was a good cam, but remember, if your bolting on the heads, they have a 60cc chamber, so your gonna lose compression.I actually lost a bit of HP when i put them on. I was making 305 RWHP with stock heads,Comp 270 cam. I put on the RPM heads and cam and went down to about 230 HP, same manifold and carb.

What engine and what heads? There many different heads made for the 302. They range from 56 - 65 cc's as far as I know so, it all depends on what castings you Had....

It looks like I'm going to go with the Comp Cams XE262H.. It suppose to have 16 - 18 hg of vacuum at 800 rpm so, that should be fine to support the power brakes at a light. It should give me a nice lope and be street friendly as well.

What do you guys think?????

So, my setup would be this;

Edelbrock 500 carb
Edelbrock performer RPM heads #60229 (1.9 intakes)
Edelbrock RPM intake
Full roller rockers
Comp Cam XE262H

Should be VERY responsive, nice lope and should be in the range of 300 - 350hp with about 350 - 400ft lbs TQ...

What's ya think guys??????????????
