Daver, that be GM numbers... but on some Fords if you number them that way and use 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 it will still run... There are only two firing orders for 90 degree V8's, and Fords 302 has had both of them...lol...

The numbering is different, but the order is the same. Confusing, maybe. We made a diagram of it to see what matches up. You need to know what cam you have in your small Ford to know what order it is.

I know this is a ford place but the GM order does make more sense, because if you look at your engine from the top, the drivers side cylinder bank is offset forward just a little bit just like any V engine. Their numbering system actually goes from front to back.

Yep, but some engines have the other bank set forward. Pontiac is opposite chevy in that respect. The LS1 has the same bank offset forward just like the Pontiacs. I never paid attention to most Ford engines, something else I will check on in the future.

What matters is that the distributor lines up with the cylinder that is on compression at the right time. Get that right and the numbers can be whatever you want them to be.

It doesn't matter if it makes more sense to you...When someone asks how ford counts their cylinders, you dont tell them the GM way....
