Default Single wire alternator

Is it a pain in the rear to to get rid of that cursed voltage regulator and swap out to a single wire setup? Also, do I have to do anything to the wiring if I go up to a 100+ amp alternator? I am cluless on electrical stuff, and my electrical wizard is in Las Vegas for three weeks.

A little help here?

Thanks
