I Shoulda Left It Alone...AGAIN.
ok im was replacing the turn signal switch and i unscrewed some bolts attaching the steering column collar or whatever its called.....anyways...i should of just snipped the wires to get the old one out and slipped other one in.....
anyways...bottom line....i need to know how to get the thing off so i can put the screws back in...........
there is a rubber bushin you can pull out around the center shaft then there is a bearing in there....it looks like theres a c-clip too....if i remove the c clip will the bearing slide over the center shaft and allow me to pull the collar thing off??
this is a 1968 coupe without tilt if that matters.....this has taken more than a month to finish this stupid turn signal/steering wheel project and i just finally got the right part and i really want to finish this tonight....please help.

I don't know how different they are but my 72 I was able to slip the old harness out plug and all and slide the new one down through. it was not any more difficult than that.
yeah i realized that after i had already lost the bolt down the shaft....so anyways there was a C-Clip type thing holding the bearing on which had to be removed in order to get the bearing out and then the thing pop off....
That collar has a horizontal slide lock in it, if you turn the collar to the right or left, the two sections of the collar will seperate. Then you can pull the bottem section down and slide the plug through it, and there is enough room on the top half to pull it through. That C clip is just to keep the bearing on the shaft.
