when i push gas pedel down hard the car screechs. just had starter replaced forthe 5th time and just put a heat shield on. Anyone know why/what is screeching.

 

It sounds like the starter is a little "cocked" out of position. Loosen the bolts, move it away from the flywheel a bit, and re-tighten. Mine use to do the same thing. Make sure it is TIGHT so it will not move again. It may take a few tries to get it just right.

make sure your starter has the correct nose cone for your application. a starter for a manual trans is different from an automatic as the nose cones are different.

 

to add to this, you need to get a starter for the engine year, which may be different from the body year. I had a '67 Mustang, but it needed a starter from a '74 to work as someone changed out the motor at some point.

 

Are you sure its the starter? Mine used to screech because of the fanbelt slipping, but that doesnt sound like its your case

 

well i'm not too sure but my car used to do the same thing and it turned out to be the alternator. it was so old that it started getting stiff...i bought a new one and haven't had any problems since.

 

I would say it sounds like a loose belt. The starter is only used when cranking the car to start it. After the car starts, the starter pretty much doesn't do anything. I would go with replacing the belt.

 

Something that bothers me here though...5 starters? Is this an Automatic? Are the starter and flex plate, or flywheel on a stick, mating up OK? Have you made any other changes? On an Automatic, if the flexplate is loose or "cocked" it could also be making contact with the inside of the bell housing. That will definitely put out a high pitch screetch.
